Pelizzoli Leggenda For3

Probably the only one in the Philippines.

Just Wow.

Marvin Tongol // Owner // Weekly Forty

From Marvin:
PELIZZOLI: LEGGENDA FOR3 MODERN-CLASSIC // ITALIAN // LIGHTWEIGHT // CUSTOM GEOMETRY // CUSTOM PAINT A made to measure to your own body proportion by a master builder known as “ciocc” Giovanni Pelizzoli. My former officemates Jules Lacsamana, Maple & Lawrence Reyes( MFG members) used to convince me every day to try riding a fixed gear bike. And my usual reply to them was “there’s no way I would ride a bike without brakes!”. Well, I’m sure that’s pretty normal to all who never had an experience or heard about fixed gear before. So Jules lend me one of his bikes just to try, and that moment I first rode it I just said to myself “wow! This is a scary-amazing!” and so I got hooked and started researching about Fixedgear. I went to Maple & Lawrence house to check their bikes and got surprised (damn… a museum like room full of track bikes! Mostly njs). And Lawrence(panks) told me “when building a bike, you should build it at its purest form: if it is njs, it has to be all njs/ if Italian, has to be all Italian/ American/ modern/ classic/ and also if you can find components of the same year generation etc). " I was thinking, do I really need to follow this strictly?”.
I liked classic trackbikes from cannondale, kalavinka, and others are mostly Italians: colnago, de rosa, alan, f.moser, ciocc. But the one that really caught my attention was the cinelli laser… for me it looks like a bike from the future, very timeless in design. I found out that it is so expensive that there is no way I can have this kind of bike so I have to find something similar or second to it. Then i saw Father Tu’s Leggenda for3. and I knew that this is the bike I like to have.
PELIZZOLIWORLD EXPERIENCE So I looked for their website and contacted them, gave them my Body measurements and told them my requirements how I want it to look like. And they advised the right size for me.

Here is a construction photo of my frame not fully welded just incase there would be necessary adjustments.

I told them that I wanted the front tire to be as close as possible to the downtube and rear tire to the seat tube. They advised that there is a minimum distance between the BB and front wheel spindle to maintain an acceptable toe overlap.

My first color scheme was the weib grun from their color palette.. it is really an attractive color and many of their clients chose it. but if i choose that same color way it will look the same with other bikes they have made before so why not enjoy the service of full customization. Here are some photos of their second update: painting progress with my correction marks COLOR SCHEME

Got their third update with the corrected paint details. and after my approval it's ready for its final coating.

AND IT’S ALL OVER!! My frame is ready for delivery to Singapore then to Manila (my way of evading custom tax). Before they deliver It I requested a picture of my frame with Giovanni. “man… what an honor to work with his group and with Ciclicorsa(supplier of italian components). Wish I could pay them a visit.

Cinelli Mash Histogram

Here is a Cinelli Mash Histogram Setup'd just the way it should be..

Diego Jante // Owner // Weekly Forty Rider

From Diego:
It had to be a Cinelli Mash……. I had it all ready- Omnium Cranks, Mash Bullhorn and stem, ChubHub/Archetype wheelsets and a Zoncolan Saddle. There was still one left to be coveted – a Worthy Frameset. Although I’ve been riding with these components installed on my hard earned, tough Chromo Steal BB17 Transfer Frame, there was still this itch to get what I really wanted. I knew that day would come When my tush would sit on my Zonco’s, riding on a badass Pursuit Alu frameset, I just didn’t know what it would be – a Mataro Low, an A2 Nabiis and why not a Custom LOW// but during that time, all these are far from being a reality for me. I had to settle for what I had. After a couple of months, I didn’t only settle, I was loving my BB17 Transfer and all the earlier thoughts I had of a Pursuit Alu Frame disappeared. Then one day, a friend by the name of Tito Les got his Cinelli Vigorosa. It was truly a sight and light as a feather….. I gotta have a Cinelli! Just like that, the hunt was on. No stock, not the right size, too pricey. I was hopeless. Then one day, there it was at Simple Cyclery. It’s owner not wanting it anymore. I knew, that was the one for me because bikes and frames come in and out of Gilbert’s Simple Cyclery but this time, it had to be a Cinelli Mash.

Finding 3Rensho

A year and a half ago I got into fixedgear bikes and started riding one to work. Reading up about it lead me to this awesome group called Manla Fixed Gear, where my knowledge and appreciation about this type of ride grew.

This story actually started one morning when on my way to work I saw this bike used by a fellow, set up'd with a rear brake(clipped) and a freewheel. Just by one look at it I knew it was a trackbike. I'm pretty sure I saw "3rensho" decals on it, but before I could take  a better look, I lost him. The next morning I intentionally got up early and went to the same spot where I saw him, hoping to chance upon him again, but alas, no such luck. This happened for a few weeks and a few sleepless nights.

Then one afternoon, on my way home, I saw him again! Finally! I pedaled as fast as I can and was able to catch up. The 3rensho fellow was kind enough to stop and chat. From then on we got to regularly see each other. It was he beginning of a beautiful track bike friendship!

I researched for days about 3rensho and I was able to confirm that it is a 3Rensho Trackbike. When I couldn't help it anymore I finally had to ask if there is a chance that he would to sell it to me. His answer was, to my sad sad disappointment, a NO. He said it was from his uncle that came from Japan and its his favorite commuter among his bikes. He also knew that it was something valuable with all the Dura ace parts (7500 track). Sad sad...

He asked me to help him instead, as he wants to try riding it fixed. So I gave him a cog and a lockring. I also invited him to ride with me during sundays to meet some fellow fixed gear riders, though he never did join us. Still, we continued communicating. After several months, I received a text from him that he needed money for house repairs. As much as I want to empathize with the bad state of his house (that needed the repairs)no such feelings came as I only felt elation for the fulfillment of my hard earned patience! As soon as we closed negotiations, I picked up my 3Rensho the next morning, AND YES IT WAS MINE!

From the net:

-
3Rensho was originally started as an offshoot of Cherubim, Yoshi Konno's brother Hiroshi's shop. Yoshi Konno was going to sell semi-custom "Cherubim Cycles" frames from his own shop, but Hiroshi was unable to provide enough volume so Yoshi Konno (along with Yamaguchi, a mystery Panasonic custom shop builder and Makino) started making frames under the "Cyclone" name. Cyclone was a Suntour trademark, so the shop soon switched to 3Rensho. The very, very earliest 3Renshos (1978-80 or so) were stickered both with the Cherubim Cycles shop logo, as well as the 3Rensho logos.
